Hello, I’m John Nye, a software developer, Mac nerd and occasional cyclist. This site is really a personal playground for me to comment on tech news, develop and try out ideas relating to design and pos the ocasional rant.
An Experiment Of Kinds starts to explain what is going on on this site. It’s not a fixed design, but one that reflects my current areas of interest and learning, at the moment typography. I’m by no means a typographer but I’m learning. It’s also a place for me to improve my rather low standards of writing. I’m keeping a change log if you want to see the different design changes.
The site is built upon MODX, which is a fantastic CMS, and hosted at memset. I actively try to keep page load time to below 1 second, if you find it’s more please let me know. My only peice of SEO advice is never under estimate the power of a fast site. The design is inspired by everything and anything I see on the internet, but mostly tries to be readable.
There are no comments on this site but if you want to drop me an email, or post a robust and scathing repost to any of my opinions let me know at john@johnnye.net.
As usual the opinions expressed here are my own, I made them up all by my self, they do not reflect, nor are they endorsed by anyone who employs me. My employers have no influence on the content of this site but as work occupies at least 8 hours a day it probably affects what I write about in some way.
I also run bikecoffeebike.com a site full of interesting and fun cycling and coffee related paraphernalia.
